The Dos and Don'ts of Organising a Team Building Event

Team building events can either break or make your team. If you want your employees to enjoy themselves and at the same time, learn a lot of things they can apply in their day to day work, there are things you should and shouldn't do when planning and organising a team building event. Let's take a look at some of them.

The Don'ts

1. Unless all of your employees are fitness buffs, don't create events that are too physically demanding or challenging. Always keep in mind that your team members have varying fitness levels. If the team building exercises are too physically challenging, some members won't be able to participate and they will be left behind, which is exactly the opposite of what you want to achieve.

2. If you want the participants to fully enjoy themselves, don't make the team building event all about work. While it's important that your staff are able to learn something they can apply to work, it's also important that you give them the chance to relax and get to know each other better.

3. Bearing No 2 in mind, don't organise the event in your workplace. If you can afford to go to another place, choose another venue for your team building exercises. If you don't have the budget, you don't need to go that far because there are parks, beaches, and other public areas where you can have your team building event for free.

The point here is you should provide the participants with a different environment so they can focus on the activities in front of them and mentally clear their mind from their usual issues at work.

The Dos

1. For your team building in Penrith, do prepare exercises or activities that are inclusive so everyone can participate. You should also create a mixture of tasks that are fun and challenging. Make sure to create a balance between the two. This way, your team members will learn something new while enjoying themselves.

2. Do remember that just like any corporate event, team building requires planning and preparation. It requires objectives and a budget. If you need help planning the activities, you may ask everyone for help.

In fact, getting the team involved in the preparation can get them interested and excited for team building day and help ensure their 100% participation. You may also sign up for professional services to make the planning and preparation a breeze.

3. If you want to make your next team building event better and grander than ever, do ask for feedback. Once all the team building activities are said and done, ask your team what they like and don't like about the event, or if there are certain areas that need improvement.
